CSA Newsletter week 6

July 28, 2009  Box #6

box july 006

With sleepy eyes we all piled around a pot of extra strong earl grey tea this morning as we discussed today’s harvest.  Because of the recent heat wave our work days have begun a little earlier.  The eggplants, tomatoes, peppers and squash soak up the sun eager to ripen their fruit.  But, not to far from them in the field the lettuce collapse up against the wall of heat and the cold loving brassicas pine for fall weather.  We knew it was going to be a long day at 7:00am when we had already begun peeling off our clothes in hopes of some relief.

This week’s box:

New Potatoes – Yellow Finn and Red Lasota

Last week we picked out the biggest bulbs of garlic for you.  This week we are picking out the smallest ones.  We want to save our best medium size garlic to use as seed.  So we are giving our CSA everything else.  The big and medium bulbs perform equally well for seed. So we figured we should give out the big ones and save the mediums to plant this fall.

As always, if you have any questions or comments please give us call.

I’m so hot.  Enjoy your box.
